Traser

Back to Diving

Traser UK contributed to the Ocean Nomad expedition by donating a selection of Glowrings – essentially a glow in the dark key ring, which can be seen from up to 20 feet away and glows for 10 years! - and Krill Lamps – lightsticks which are available in a range of colours, are water resistant to 50 metres, can be switched on and off as required, are powered by 2 AA batteries and, with a burn time of over 2,500 hours, make an excellent alternative to disposable chemical lightsticks.

We had initially intended to use both the Glowrings and Krill Lamps on night dives – the different coloured Krill lamps to identify divers and the Glowrings to mark torches, computers and any other bits of diving equipment that could be mislaid while kitting up, returning from the dive site or while underwater. But both the Glowrings and the Krill Lamps have plenty of other uses. We have tagged our vehicle and trailer keys with Glowrings – which makes locating them when they disappear into the depths of the Range Rover a far easier task! At night we hang the vehicle keys inside the tent – Richard and I are very shortsighted and now we can locate the keys from their glow, rather than having to scrabble around to find our glasses! The Krill Lamps shed enough light to be able to locate items in the car and tent without ruining night vision, and a Krill Lamp hanging on the tent’s ladder makes a great homing beacon on a dark night!
