As a vehicle based expedition we have the opportunity to dive at a wide range of locations and the problem of air supply has been solved by Bauer Compressors, who have kindly lent us one of their newly developed Oceanus portable compressors for the duration of the expedition. The Oceanus has been designed to be used on vessels, diving boats and expeditions and the use of stainless steel and kevlar for the frame and filling device ensures extreme resistance to corrosion. At 47kg, the unit is lightweight enough to be lifted by one person and has fitted easily into our diving trailer. We have been extremely impressed by the speed with which the compressor will fill two tanks (around 40 minutes) and have found that the unit runs relatively quietly. The expedition gives us the opportunity to test how the compressor will endure being transported over rough ground and used in hot, dusty conditions.
