GPS Waypoints
Getting there:
Regular ferries run between Nuweiba in Sinai and Aqaba (see the Egypt section for ferry costs). The only crossing between Syria and Jordan is at Der'a, and there are three border crossings between Israel and Jordan; at Wadi Araba (between Eilat and Aqaba), at the Allenby Bridge between the West Bank and Jordan, and the northernmost Jordan River crossing at Jisr Sheikh Hussein.
Entering Jordan was astonishingly quick - a mere twenty minutes between leaving the ferry and exiting the port. We were charged the following:
- Vehicle insurance (valid for three months) - £30.00
- Entry licence for the vehicle (must be surrendered on exit) - £8.00
- Stamp for passport (passports must be handed in on the ferry and are returned at immigration) - £1.00

Visa requirements:
British Nationals require a visa to enter Jordan.
Visas can be obtained at the border or in Jordanian consulates outside the country.
Single entry visas can be obtained, on arrival, at any port of entry, except for the King Hussein Bridge where it is essential to have a valid visa prior to arrival, (if you wish to visit Israel and the Palestinian Authority during your visit to Jordan it is better to obtain a multiple entry visa before departure). A single entry visa costs JD10 (Jordanian Dinars) and can be extended for up to three months free of charge. Multiple entry visas to Jordan are only issued at Jordanian diplomatic missions abroad.
There is an exit tax of JD5 by air and JD7 by land. Visitors are admitted for 2 weeks, but this can be extended to up to 3 months at any police station (if you stay more than two weeks without informing the police you will pay a fine of JD1.5 for each day beyond two weeks).
