Organising insurance for yourself, your possessions and your vehicle can be difficult and costly.

On our first overland expedition, I organised travel health insurance through Torribles in the UK (0117 921 1806) - their prices were very competitive and the people that I dealt with were extremely helpful.

For this expedition I am using Worldwide Travel Insurance Services Limited. For more information, telephone 00 44 1892 833 338 or visit their website, www.worldwideinsure.com

Insurance for the vehicle is more of a problem. Whilst in Europe we will be covered by a Green Card (giving, at the very least, the manadatory 3rd party insurance) issued by our UK insurers. This will cover us until we leave Turkey - from there on most countries will demand that you purchase 3rd party insurance at the border. It is possible to arrange vehicle insurance for countries outside Europe - in the UK, this can be done through a company called Campbell Irvine (48 Earls Court Road, Kensington, W8 6EJ - 0207 937 6981). Their vehicle insurance policy will cover accidental damage, fire and theft - there is no third party cover. I have been quoted £500 for 12 months - this cover can be extended for a longer period.
